Our room woke up 15 minutes earlier, 7.15 am, so we could get dressed and wake up the boys. Sjenna already unlocked the door to the other girls room and we went inside while singing happy birthday to Evelien. Then we had breakfast with the whole group and we went to Cape Agulhas at 8.30 am. This is the most southern point of South Africa and the continent itself. First we went on a lighthouse and we could see the point from there. Then we actually walked to the most southern point of Africa. There is the meeting point of two oceans, the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. I eventually saw the line and it was pretty awesome to see it. Afterwards we went to a beach and we lay there for 2 hours. Then we already went back to Genadendal. At around 7.30 pm a teacher came into our rooms that we were going out for dinner for Evelien's birthday while he had been saying we really weren't going out for dinner the whole day. Everyone hurried to put on something decent because everyone already put on something else. It was super fun there and there was a really fun parrot too. After dinner we went back to the hostel, we did our last preparations for the lesson we had the next day and went to bed.
Day 14 (Thursday, the 6th of March)
We got up at 6.30 am and are breakfast together as a group at 7 am. At 7.30 am we went to the primary schools we were going to give lessons. We had as lesson Ganzenbord which is a Dutch board game. First we explained the game which was quite hard because the kids from grade 3 couldn't speak English yet but the teacher translated everything for us. Then we let them play the game and even though they didn't understand it that well, it was still fun for both us and them. Afterwards we gave them a empty board and we let them draw, glue on pictures and paste on stickers. The kids were really enthusiastic and happy they were allowed to do this. Even the teacher made a board for herself. When we told the teacher she could keep all the materials, boards, pawns, dice, pencils etc. we brought she hugged us and she was really happy. It was really cute. Then we took a group picture and stayed for the break. We went back to the hostel and had free time till 12.30 and then we went to an assembly on school. It would be the last time we would see the buddies. After the assembly which was as fun as always we had some time with our buddies to eat lunch and to say goodbye. We also got some presents including a mug with our name on it. It was really emotional for some of us because some people had gotten a really good bond with their buddies or just didn't want to go home yet. Some of the buddies went back to the hostel and some people went to a place with some water close by our hostel so they could swim. I decided to stay in the hostel and pack my suitcase. At 7 pm we went somewhere to eat bobotie, a South African speciality. There we heard there was a sudden national crisis and that the electricity went out at 10 pm till 1.30 am and from 6 am till 9 am. A lot of people freaked out because they still had to pack their suitcase and shower. The water also ran on electricity there. At 10 pm all of us were waiting for the light to fall out but it never happened. Eventually nothing happened at all so we went to sleep.
Day 15 - 16 (Friday, the 7th of March and Saturday, the 8th of March)
Today we had to get up at 7 am. The last things went in the suitcase and then we went into the busses for the last time. We went our way to Cape Town again. In Cape Town we got time in Waterfront, a big mall, to shop and eat. After our time was up there we went to the airport. At the airport two of the African teachers came to say goodbye to us which was really cute. On the airport we got some free time again and then at 6 pm we took off to Dubai. We landed around 3 am in Dubai and we had 3 hours there so again we got some free time to look around the airport of buy something. Then we went back up in the air again to Düsseldorf. This time there was no delay at all like on the trip to South Africa which was quite a relief. At the luggage pickup we already said goodbye with the group before we went to our parents. It was really emotional to see my parents again and also because you realized that everything you had done in the past two weeks was real. We said goodbye for the last time and then I went back home.
